Mine/yours

First Up Best Dressed was a clothes swap/installation that took place at various locations including Battersea Arts Centre, London, The Arches Glasgow, and the Forest, Edinburgh. Participants were asked to exchange one of their garments for one of ours, the only request being that they had to write a story about their garment on a label and attach it to the item left behind.

Dress fancy

Along with three colleagues, I was a founding partner in this forward thinking boutique/creative space which played host to art exhibitions, film screenings, and music events. Indeed many of the people we cajoled into displaying artworks, DJing, modelling tee shirts or manning the till have gone on to do great things – including Kate Moross, LuckyMe, Superclub and Harvest Skateboards.

The that

For the past decade I have performed as part of 7VWWVW. Since recording our debut EP direct to VHS tape in a single 20-minute take, we have released records, reinterpreted other artists, scored several films and played live in many unusual places, including a Bronze Age roundhouse somewhere near Dumfries. Our self-titled album is still my proudest ever achievement, with the exception of my son’s birth, naturally. Thanks to David Martin for the photo of our heraldic wax seal.

The this

As incredible as it may seem, I have an actual proper day job at Touch, a design agency in Edinburgh. I originally joined as a copywriter although my role has since evolved to also include art direction, naming and nurturing new brands and project management. We work with everyone from young start ups to more established organisations such as the Edinburgh International Festival, Capability Scotland and Scottish National Galleries. You can see more of that sort of a thing over here.
